Day 6: Spring Break in Baja California, México

Day 5: San Felipe, BC to Pocatello, Idaho

  • We woke in Percebu, packed camp and headed north.  It was Saturday and after our visit to San Felipe we understood that the border crossing would be crazy on Sunday   It was time to head home. On our way through San Felipe, we stopped for a meeting and got to walk through the overstuffed town one more time.  Folks were cooking breakfast on the sidewalk or still sleeping in the bed of trucks.  Must have been some Friday night.
  • We drove straight north toward the border at Mexicali, stopping for one last fill-up with inexpensive gas, some stellar tacos and papaya that Wells would not leave the country without.  The border crossing was trying with vendors and folks in need of help.  Immigration was simple and fast (I think the guard was intimidated by the dogs and softened by the kids in the back seat).  We crossed the border, got our bearings and planned a route north.  Overall, Mexico was a delight.
  • We asked the kids which aspect of the trip was most memorable.  "Mexican people are nice.  They like to talk and are so friendly.  Tacos are delicious and I think I learned some Spanish."  Mission accomplished.  We crossed the border at ~3pm and drove all through the night after stopping for stellar BBQ in Blythe.  I navigated the backroads to Las Vegas and Cana carried us all the way up I-15.  By ~7am, we were home and started to unpack.  Can't wait to do this again.

Sleeping in embrace.
