Good news. Next year we call Concepción home.

In February the first letter from the Fulbright  commission arrived with good news. We were going to Concepción, Chile!  I would be a part of a program called the All Disciplines Regional Award, that focuses on bringing scholars to universities outside the capital city of Santiago. There would be more information on its way.  For the next few weeks, I focused on basic logistics like flights and housing, without making any final commitments. It has been wonderful to get solid advice from previous academic visitors to Chile...from information about schools to insight into making the most of their time abroad.  In order to prepare for moving south, we are heading to Baja California over the kid's Spring Break to practice Spanish and travel in a foreign (sort of) country.

Our plans for the next week are pretty simple.  We will work our way south along the Pacific Coast and then back up the Sea of Cortez.  We will boggie straight past Ensenada after fueling up and getting provisions.  We will spend a night along the coast somewhere inland of San Vicente.  The next night will be near San Quintin.  The next few nights will be spent in the Bahia de Los Angeles on the east side.  We will then head north toward San Felipe, staying the night on the beach near Laguna Percebu.  If we have time (and energy) we will head north toward Mexicali then back south toward Guadalupe hot springs.  Sunday we will cross the border in the early morning and drive the 14 hours back north to Pocatello.  I'll try to keep you all updated, but I make no promises as cell service and wi-fi are unpredictable.  YeeHa!

It all starts with late night tacos.
